Mike and I attended the formal opening ceremony for the new PICU unit on the Lynfield Mount site this morning. The current Lord Mayor Dale Smith conducted the cutting of the ribbon as part of his 806th formal engagement of the year. The event was attended by about 100 members of staff, service users and contractors and Cygnet Healthcare a local private sector PICU provider. The new unit is absolutely stunning and a real credit to all the staff involved in the planning process. The unit really does set a gold standard for state of the art intensive support in a safe environment and has been carefully set out to support a calm and spacious environment. The current users of PICU will transfer across from the existing Airedale unit on Thursday which paves the way for the commencement of redesign and refurbishment for older peoples inpatient services.
